About this saint
Saint Martin de Porres was a Dominican brother in Lima who served in his monastery’s infirmary. Drawing on his training as a barber-surgeon, he cared for his fellow friars and sought out sick and homeless people, feeding them and tending their wounds. His service reached across the racial and social divisions of his time, giving practical form to a life rooted in prayer. The words beneath the portrait, “lead us in compassion,” invite that same care into our daily lives. His image is especially fitting in a clinic, ministry office, barbershop, community space, or prayer corner.
